Recently a group of Caterpillar employees toured the PolyTraumatic Rehabilitation Center at Hunter Holmes Mcguire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. While touring the facility, they met with Dr. Shane McNamee, chief of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Department of Veterans Affairs, who is leading a program designed to accelerate rehabilitation and job placement for wounded veterans. One idea that came up was the opportunity for some of these warriors to find employment operating heavy equipment. Enter Cat® Simulators.
Simulator training provides a way for operators to gain familiarization and understanding of machine controls and applications; and learn proper operating procedures before training on actual machines. The simulated environment affords a safe place to learn and make mistakes without harm to people, machines or the job site. Simulation training seemed the right first step for the program.

West Virginia University is seeking an Employment Specialist to proactively recruit talent for assigned departments and to participate in Veteran recruitment activities. This position will locate talent, develop and maintain accurate candidate information, create and submit reports to reflect placements, job opening activities, and other performance standards. This position will develop and implement a communication and marketing plan to attract well-qualified diverse applicants and develop new recruitment venues. The Employment Specialist will adhere to established metrics standards to advance time to fill, evaluate the quality of applicants, ensure that such processes are in compliance with the Office of Social Justice, and work with departments to develop workforce projections and identify time to reach employee productivity standards.
Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human resources and/or adult education, or closely related field. Plus two years demonstrated recruiting experience; working with recruitment markets including an understanding of supply and demand, and locating and hiring talent; and working with customers/clients to meet workforce needs. A valid driver’s license is required.
The anticipated annual salary for this position starts at $37,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
