Troops to Teachers Program Information

Attention Veterans,

I am proud to announce that the Troops to Teachers program now offers increased eligibility for career counseling, job placement assistance and financial assistance. All current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces whose last period of military service was characterized as honorable are now eligible to register and participate in the Troops to Teachers (TTT) program to receive counseling and referral services. Registered program members interested in receiving up to $10,000 of financial assistance must also meet the educational and time in service requirements listed on the attached eligibility criteria file. To register, one must simply print, fill out and submit the attached registration packet in one of the following ways:

·         Mail: DANTES, Troops to Teachers, 6490 Saufley Field Road, Pensacola, FL 32509-5243

·         Fax: 850-452-1194

·         Scan/Email:

In addition to opening up Troops to Teachers counseling and referral services to all current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces with honorable service and lowering the amount of time in service required for Reserve and National Guard soldiers to become eligible for financial assistance, there is another important change in the eligibility criteria for financial assistance. In the past, qualifying Troops to Teachers candidates have had the opportunity to register within their first year of employment to become eligible for the bonus. These requirements have changed to insist that all candidates who are eligible for the bonus must register and submit qualifying documentation to the federal office before getting hired. That is why we would like to encourage every veteran that has ever thought about the possibility of becoming a teacher to register immediately, while the requirements are the finest they have ever been. We would also like to encourage qualifying veterans who have already become teachers to register, so that if at any point in the future they wish to pursue an additional certification we may be able to provide them with services.

I challenge each of you to become a part of the driving force in education reform by aspiring to become a teacher and help prepare the next generation of Americans for a new era of change and progress. With the recent suspensions of federal tuition assistance funds and a strong demand for highly qualified teachers in school districts throughout West Virginia, there may be no better time than now to consider career paths in education. You’ve honorably defended your country in the military as a protector of freedom, now use your skills and experiences to inspire youth so that they will become intelligent, well-rounded and productive members of our society. Troops to Teachers members are proudly serving again to meet this challenge for a better tomorrow. Join us!
